Parking / Driving

If you are coming by car, then the best places to park are (in the following order)

  1. free car-park on New Street
  2. quiet on-street parking on Station Road
  3. the free car-park on Old Bank
Do not park at the start, Velofondista. There are ANPR cameras and the parking charges are high. Also, I would rather not have lots of cars trying to drive along the canal while all the audax riders are trying to gather. It makes sense to park in the quiet places around Slaithwaite, especially where there is free parking.

By train

Slaithwaite is a regular stop on the Leeds/York to Manchester line, but the first trains on a Sunday don't arrive until 9:25am. If coming by train you'll need to travel the day before.

Staying overnight

Slaithwaite has so much going on. There is live music at the Shoulder of Mutton on a Saturday night, we are on the Real Ale Trail and the Commercial pub is worth a visit. There are cafes open late and the food selection is stunning. Although Slaithwaite is a village, there are towns which have less facilities than we do. Air BnB: link

Extend your Calendar Event

Audax UK encourages riders to consider riding to the start and validating this with an ECE. Turn a 200km event into a 300km event by riding 50km to the start and 50km home again. I have done this and it can be a lot of fun and give you some bragging rights too. Enter an ECE here
